Wellbeing: Ruby Wax on Depression and Mindfulness

Wellbeing is become, rightly, an important component of school curricula and the more we learn, the more we are able to move closer to the best learning environment for our students.

Ruby Wax spends time in this RSA clip to explain depression and her experiences with it. She talks about the shame associated with it: the reluctance to admit to it and seek treatment, the reaction of others as well as yourself to the disease.

She talks about mindfulness as a tool to help mediate the bombardment of negative thoughts, and what is physically happening in the body. She also talks about how she uses mindfulness techniques to lower her stress and ward off bouts of depression. She calls it learning ‘un-anger’.

A brave, funny, complex individual who has something to say that is worth listening to.
